The village of San Juan y Martinez,located in the centre of the Vuelta Abajo zone,is where Hoyo de Monterrey had its start. The town's main centre has a gate that reads,Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1960. This gate leads to the Hoyo de Monterrey plantation,one of the great Vegas de Primera. A powerful cigar with a taste that is surprisingly mild and smooth. When a late '80s example received a 99 out of 100 rating in the second issue of Cigar Aficionado,it shot to fame. It's still a cigar worth considering. Outstanding,robust,greasy,and bursting with richness and scent. This smoke is fantastic. A hint of caramel,a rush of cinnamon,and creamy flavours of almond and vanilla quickly emerge.
